Design Action was pleased to work with the Ecology Center in Berkeley to design, build and launch their new website. For over forty years, the Ecology Center has served the East Bay with a mission to “inspire and build a sustainable, healthy, and just future.” The Ecology Center operates recycling services, several farmer’s markets, a demonstration facility, a library, a helpline, classes and workshops, and a store for sustainable living.
As well as general information and news about the Ecology Center, Design Action built a number of directories that connect visitors to the Center’s work: Farmer’s Market vendors, the library catalog, and EcoDirectory resource listings. Design Action partnered with the Ecology Center’s staff to pull vendor, library, and directory listings directly from their in-house database, where staff can update and add listings; the updated listings are displayed automatically on the site.
Visitors can find information about the products and practices of each Farmer’s Market vendor, as well as the dates and locations where they can find the vendors. Each listing page contains detailed information and a map of the vendor’s farm or workshop.
Resources related to ecology and sustainable living can be found in the Ecodirectory, which contain businesses, organizations, and programs. Visitors to the site can search the EcoDirectory, or browse through popular topics.
The Center’s library catalog is available online, allowing visitors to search the library’s collection. The new site also contain’s the Center’s library of fact sheets and links to outside resources.
The new site also displays an extensive listing of classes and events, both those that the Ecology Center hosts and those of the greater community. Visitors can search or browse event listings and calendars, with a detailed view for each event displaying information and mapping.
