Artificial intelligence (AI) has permeated the ways we seek and share information, produce new content and develop our communications. As media makers for social justice movements, we have to contend with this reality and consider the ethical questions regarding environmental impact, digital security, disinformation proliferation, and cultural theft.
Fortunately, we are not alone in struggling through these questions. We are grateful to be part of an ecosystem of organizers, culture workers and radical communicators who have created guidelines and resources to help us navigate this changing technological landscape and root ourselves in our shared values.
Here are some articles we’re reading at Design Action. (We’ll keep this list updated, so feel free to send us your favorite resources to add to it!)
- To AI or not to AI? Our new guide will help you get answers. from Spitfire Strategies
- Don’t Buy The AI Hype by Sassafras Tech Collective
- Artificial Intelligence, Copyright, and the Fight for User Rights from the Electronic Frontier Foundation
- Building Boundaries in Love for Equity and Justice: An AI Manifesto from Nonprofit Quarterly
